1) Tour the island
By staying in a Barbados villa rental, hiring a car to explore the island is a definite must. There are such superb contrasts across Barbados. From the quiet, rugged, spectacular coastline of the north and east coast, the sugar cane plantations and rolling hills of central Barbados to the beautiful calm waters of the south and west coast.
2) Go for a beach walkabout
All the beaches in Barbados are public which means you can walk up and down the different beaches as much as you want. You can even go on an organised hike. See Hike Barbados for details.
3) Swim with the turtles
Barbados is home to a healthy population of turtles. You can either ask the locals where the best place to swim to see them is or arrange a catamaran or sailboat tour that offers such trips. Your Barbados villa house manager will be able to arrange this for you.
4) Oistins Fish Fry
For a night out Barbados style then don’t miss the Fish Fry every Friday night in the vibrant town of Oistins. It is popular with both the locals and tourists and is a really fun night out. You can eat fresh local fish whilst it is cooked in front of you and watch or join in with the dancing and entertainment around you. If your villa in Barbados is not close enough to walk to Oistins then take a taxi or a bus ride as it is a must see.
5) Visit Harrison’s Cave
This is an incredible limestone cavern with spectacular columns and tumbling waterfalls. Tour options include a tram ride and an eco tour plus a bat tour for the children. Visit Harrison's Cave website for details.
6) Go on the Atlantis Submarine
For those that like the idea of snorkeling and diving but don’t like to get wet then this is the solution. Atlantis is one of only a few in the world to take paying passengers on board. You dive to around 100 feet to view all the exquisite sea life Barbados offers. It is a unique experience. Visit Atlantis Submarines website for details.
7) Take a Jeep Safari Tour
The No. 1 way to explore Barbados off the beaten track. Half and full day tours can be arranged with Island Safari.
8) Go to a sporting event
The locals are sport mad. There are cricket pitches dotted all over the island plus the international ground – Kensington Oval – in Bridgetown. You will never experience a cricket match like it and it is well worth a look. Horse racing is also popular in Barbados and there are regular race meets at the Garrison which is also a great day out. Ask your house manager where the nearest event is from your Barbados holiday villa.
9) Go and relax on one of the many beaches
Seems obvious but is surely one of the reasons why you would visit Barbados. The waters on the west and south coast are perfect for snorkeling and swimming whereas on the east coast it is all about the surf and is perfect for surfers. Most Barbados villa rentals are within a short walk or drive from the beach. Alternatively rent a villa
